Meyer Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Grill Pan

Although most Indians favor using skillets to grill, Meyer Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron grill pan provides truly remarkable results - perfect griddle marks on sandwiches, steaks, and paneer. However, due to its shape and design it is essential that you season your grill pan thoroughly and add enough butter or oil before use; else the food will be prone to sticking. With these necessary precautions taken however, a quality-grilled meal can easily become part of everyday life. If you're looking for a healthy and safe cooking solution, look no further than this totally toxin-free grill pan. Boasting neither chemical coating on the inner or outer surface, it has been pre-seasoned with 100% vegetable oil to create an all-natural non-stick surface without any additives. Enjoy low oil cooking as your food will never stick!

What is cast iron seasoning?

With regular use, Meyer Cast Iron cookware naturally develops a protective layer known as seasoning. This can be achieved by applying oil to your cast iron pan after washing and drying it. The more you apply the correct care for your cookware, the greater its seasoning will become! Your skillet can easily be released and cared for thanks to the seasoning layer, becoming increasingly smoother and darker as you use your cast iron over time. As you build up this base of seasoning, it will create a slick finish that is easy to maintain and clean. Have you ever wondered what gives cast iron its unique glossy finish? It's all due to the science of polymerization. When vegetable oils and/or fats are heated in a specialized cast-iron pan at an optimal temperature, they undergo a transformation: from being wet liquid substances into creating a hard surface with an unmistakable shine! This process is called `polymerization'. Fundamentally, cast iron seasoning is a process that fuses the spices to the cooking surface of your pans. If you neglect this step, oxygen and moisture in the air will eventually corrode and rust your cookware. To dive deeper into understanding why we season our irons check out additional scientific explanations on cast iron seasoning!

What oil should I choose for seasoning?

Whenever you're cooking with a cast iron, it's important to always add some oil before adding your food. This will help the meal not stick and create more layers of seasoning in the pan over time. The type of oil doesn't really matter; just make sure that the max temperature for whatever oil you choose is lower than its smoke point!

Avocado oil is one of our top recommendations for cast iron use due to its high smoke point of more than 200 Degree Celsius. We often cook with temperatures above this, so it's an ideal choice! You can also consider olive oil, vegetable oil, canola oil, grapeseed, or sunflower oils as well - they all offer excellent results and would be great options. If you're looking for an oil to use when seasoning your cast iron skillet, these options are all excellent choices! With a high smoke point, mild flavor and often being common kitchen staples makes them incredibly useful.
