False daisy, popularly known as Bhringraj, is one of the best ayurvedic herb. Its scientific name is Eclipta Prostrata and belongs to the family of sunflowers (Asteraceae).

Plant description of False daisy:

 

The annual herb karisalanganni has several branches and reaches a height of around 0.9 m. This plant is an erect, rough-haired, prostrate herb. Typically, it can be found in muddy ponds and rivers, narrow channels, gardens, and yards as well as in unclean locations with moist black soil.

 

False daisies require loamy or mucky soil and thrive in moist to moderately moist environments. This plant's cylindrical root system has roots that are greyish in colour. The stem is up to 0.3 m in length, meaty, reddish, and covered in short, stiff hair.

 

False daisy’s leaves:

 

Its leaves are ovate to oblong-lanceolate in shape, simple, rough, and dull green in colour. Karisalanganni has a whole or partially serrated border, a sharp or blunt tip, and an attenuated base. Short-petioled bottom leaves with visible veins and hairs on both surfaces.

 

False daisy leaves range in size from 2 to 10 cm long, and 1 to 3 cm wide.

 

False daisy’s Flower:

 

The diameter of a bhringraj flower head is up to 1 cm. In the upper axial or terminal part of the arrangement, there is a cluster of white flowers without a stalk with one or more heads. The counterfeit daisy flower's primary stem (Peduncle), which is 0.5-7 cm in length, is thickened at the apex.

Petal and sepal-holding bracts are typically 5–6 mm in size, oval in shape, and green in colour. It has two rows; the inner row is shorter, more noticeable, and hairy, and the outside row is longer, measuring 4-6 mm.

 

Corollas on ray flowers are white and are 2-3 mm in length. They are marginal, pistillate, and fertile. Five stamens with distinct filaments and anthers that have fused together to form a tube-like structure are present.

The fruit of the Karisalanganni is wedge-shaped, light brown to black in colour, and measures 0.9 mm in width and 2-3 mm in length. Fruits have a short tip (Apex). Pappus is absent in this instance and has fragile white hairs.
