Pressure Cooker Guide for Cooking Litti Chokha the Easy Way

Litti Chokha, a beloved dish from Bihar, is known for its rustic charm, wholesome ingredients, and smoky flavors. Traditionally cooked over open flames or in a tandoor, it might seem daunting to recreate at home. But with the Meyer Presta Pressure Cooker, you can bring the same authentic taste into your modern kitchen — effortlessly and safely.

With its triply base, ergonomic cool-touch handles, and wide body, the Meyer Presta is perfectly designed to mimic tandoor-like cooking, ensuring even browning and optimal heat retention while keeping your cooking experience smooth and controlled.

What is Litti Chokha?

  • Litti: Wheat flour dough balls stuffed with spiced roasted gram flour (sattu), traditionally roasted over charcoal.

  • Chokha: A mashed blend of roasted eggplant, tomatoes, and potatoes, infused with mustard oil, garlic, and green chilies.

Why Choose Meyer Presta for Litti Chokha?

  • Triply Base Construction: Distributes heat evenly, preventing burnt patches and ensuring perfect roasting.

  • Spacious & Wide Body: Allows multiple Littis to be cooked in a single batch, saving time.

  • Stay-Cool Handles: Safe to lift and turn during cooking, without worrying about hot handles.

  • Reliable Locking Lid: Lets you steam and roast safely by removing the gasket and whistle, converting your cooker into an efficient mini-oven.

Steps to Make Litti in Meyer Presta

1. Prepare the Dough

Mix wheat flour, salt, and ghee. Add water slowly and knead into a firm, smooth dough. Cover and let it rest.

2. Mix the Stuffing

Combine all stuffing ingredients in a bowl. Add a few drops of water if needed to make it moist but crumbly.

3. Fill the Littis

Divide the dough, flatten each portion, fill it with stuffing, and seal to form smooth balls.

4. Preheat Meyer Presta

  • Place a trivet or steel ring inside the Meyer Presta.

  • Add 1.5 cups of salt or dry sand to create an oven-like effect.

  • Close the lid without the gasket and whistle, and heat for 4–5 minutes on medium flame.

5. Bake the Litti

  • Place Littis on a steel plate or grill rack inside the preheated cooker.

  • Close the lid (again, without gasket/whistle) and cook on medium-low heat for 20–25 minutes.

  • Flip halfway through for even roasting.

Thanks to Meyer Presta’s triply base and wide construction, the Littis get a beautifully browned crust and soft, smoky interior—just like in a traditional clay oven.

Prepare the Chokha

  • Roast brinjal and tomatoes directly on flame until the skin chars.

  • Peel and mash with boiled potatoes, roasted garlic, mustard oil, chili, salt, and coriander.

Serve & Enjoy

Drizzle hot Littis with melted ghee and serve them alongside the spicy, rustic chokha. For a complete experience, pair with tangy green chutney or curd.
