Senna Tea - Health Benefits, Uses and Important Facts

Senna is a herb that comes from a group of flowering plants called Cassia. Senna plant leaves, flowers, and fruits have been used in tea as a laxative or a stimulant for hundreds of years.

Some teas that help people with constipation or help them lose weight use the leaves of the Senna plant.

What is senna tea?

Senna tea is made from the leaves of more than 250 different kinds of Cassia plants. Senna has been used for a long time as a laxative and to clean out the bowels before tests like colonoscopies. Small shrubs with yellow or green leaflets are senna plants. These leaflets can be grown and dried to make senna tea. Cassia angustifolia and Cassia accutifolia are the two most popular types of senna leaf. They are shipped all over the world because of their unique health benefits. Senna tea tastes sweet at first, but then it gets a little bitter at the end.

Health benefits of senna tea:

  1. It can be used to treat constipation. The laxative effect of green tea makes it easier to go to the bathroom and gets your digestive system back to working at its best. In the U.S., the Food and Drug Administration has said that senna can be used to treat constipation without a prescription.
  2. It is called the "Cleansing Herb." Traditional Chinese medicine has used senna leaf to help relieve abdominal pain. It does this by lowering the heat in the large intestine and getting rid of food that has been stuck there and in the stomach for a long time. It's also called a detox tea because it can get rid of toxins in the digestive system and make it easier to absorb nutrients and burn fat.
  3. It helps with indigestion. Senna tea has been shown to help with indigestion symptoms like heartburn, nausea, and bloating.
  4. It helps you lose weight. By relieving constipation, improving the way your digestive system works, and getting rid of toxins, senna tea not only makes it easier for your body to absorb nutrients and burn fat, but it also helps you lose weight over time. The more you drink, the less you'll want to eat.

How to make senna tea?

If you want to make this tea, you should use fresh senna leaves, which have a stronger effect on the body than dried senna leaves. The leaf will be more powerful if it is fresh.

Ingredients

1 to 2 grams of senna leaves boil in 250 milliliters of water.

Steps to prepare it:

Put the leaves in a pot of boiling water and let them sit there for 5 minutes. Wait for it to cool down, then strain it and drink 1 cup without adding any sugar, preferably before bed. You should only drink this tea until your constipation is gone, or for no more than 3 days.

Senna is often used to make tea, but it can also be bought in capsule form at natural health stores and some pharmacies. One 100 mg to 300 mg capsule should be taken every day.
