Traditionally the red velvet cake was accompanied with French buttercream that is made by mixing butter and sugar, but now as the taste developed and became more popular, the modern versions of the cake are made with cream cheese frosting.

Start by preheating your oven to 180 degree celsius. Mix the refined flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt into a bowl and mix it all together.
In another bowl, add buttermilk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract and food colouring and mix it using an electric hand mixer.
While mixing, add the eggs one by one, add the vinegar and caster sugar and mix it all together.
Now finally add the dry ingredients and mix it all with the electric mixture.
Portion out the batter into a cupcake tray using an ice cream scoop and bake it in a preheated 180 degree oven for 20-22 minutes.
In a separate bowl add the cream cheese frosting and butter with vanilla extract and whip them together.
Once the cheese is fluffy enough, add the icing sugar, while simultaneously mixing them together.
Once the cupcakes are out of the oven and cooled down, frost them with cream cheese frosting with the help of a piping bag.
