Panch Phoran(Panch Masala)Masala - Health Benefits, Uses and Important Facts

Panch means five and phoron indicates tempering in Bengali. The five fragrant spices are therefore heated in oil until they sputter or crackle. Fundamentally, this involves blooming the spices in heated oil or ghee (clarified butter). Tadka, chaunk, and vaghar are all Hindi terms for this method of tempering the spices in oil. In contrast to garam masala, where the spices are powdered, panch phoran leaves the spices whole.
