Cast Iron Skillet Pizza


Who doesn't love a good pizza? And that too a wood fired pizza! It's just one of the best things that you can get in the world, isn't it? The pizza we make at home isn't close to the one we eat at a restaurant. That's because of the heat at which it has been cooked. But with this recipe, you can bake a pizza in your cast iron skillet in the oven in such a way that it would give similar results to what you actually desire.

What is Cast Iron Pizza?

​​Pizza is one of the most popular Italian Dish in the world and most people know that it was invented in Italy. Pizza evolved when people in Naples, Italy started to add toppings over their flatbreads in the 18th to 19th century. Pizza is essentially a pie that has many variations. Most of the variations are in the kind of crust it's baked on, like thin crust or a Chicago deep dish pizza.

Each one of us has tried to make a pizza at their home once in our life. We all love pizzas, specifically the ones that we get at a restaurant, but the home style never comes close to that. This cast iron skillet pizza recipe is something that you should definitely give a go, and the results might lead you to believe in good pizza at home.

    How to make Cast Iron Skillet Pizza?

    1) Add lukewarm water to a bowl and dissolve in the granulated sugar. To that add your yeast, hydrate it with the water and let it sit for 5 mins to activate. To the yeast mixture add your flour gradually and start kneading the dough.

    2) Knead the dough on a floured surface, sprinkle a pinch of salt over it and keep on kneading till the dough becomes nice and smooth. After the dough is almost kneaded, add some olive oil to it and knead it into the dough.

    3) Grease the dough with oil and let it proof in a greased bowl covered with a damp cloth for 1 hr.

    4) After the dough is doubled in size, take it out of the bowl directly into an oiled Meyer Cast Iron Skillet. Spread out the dough evenly till it replicates a pizza base and lightly prick it with a fork. Broil this in a preheated 200 degree oven for 3 minutes.

    5) After the cooked base comes out of the oven, put your pizza sauce onto it with all of your sliced toppings. Cover everything with grated mozzarella cheese. Broil it in a 200 degree oven for 8-10 minutes.

    6) Brush the crust with olive oil and slice it into 6 even pieces. enjoy it hot directly from the cast iron skillet for best results.

    Expert Tips

    1) Knead the dough till it springs back. The more you knead it, the better the dough gets.

    2) Do not skip the sugar in the dough as it helps the yeast to activate and is also necessary for the browning of the dough.

    3) Preheat your oven properly prior to starting with the recipe for the best results.
