Chilli Gobi is essentially a vegetarian version for the classic indo-chinese chilli chicken. Instead of chicken thigh pieces, in this recipe, gobi florets are fried and then tossed into a thick, sweet and spicy sauce.
Quick and Easy Chilli Gobi
This chilli gobi recipe is your quick solution, if you can't have chicken but crave for some delicious chinese food. This recipe has it all, crispness from the gobi, in a spicy, sweet sauce, with some chopped vegetables to go with it. Try this recipe for your next vegetarian or nonvegetarian meal and see everyone go crazy over your food.
1) In a bowl, add your corn flour and refined flour, season it with salt and pepper. Add water and make it into a thick batter.
2) In a Nonstick frying pan, start to heat the oil for frying. Dip the cauliflower florets into the batter and fry it on low heat for 1-2 minutes. Take it out and rest.
3) Increase the temperature of the oil and fry it again on high heat till it is crispy.
4) In a separate stainless steel kadai, add your oil and fry some chopped garlic and ginger in it. Add your dark and light soy sauce to it, with the chilli garlic paste, tomato ketchup and honey.
5) Heat some oil for frying in a stainless steel kadai over high heat. While the oil is heating, submerge all the onion rings into the batter we prepared.
6) After everything is ready, add the bell pepper and onion cubes into the sauce just created. Toss them a little, then add water with cornflour to thicken the sauce. add sesame oil and season to taste with salt and pepper.
7) To the sauce add your fried gobi with some chopped coriander and spring onions. Toss the gobi in the pan, serve it hot with a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds
Expert Tips
Wash the cauliflower thoroughly before frying.
Don't make the batter too thick or it might not crisp up.
Mix the cornflour and water before adding to the sauce for easier mixing..
