Broken wheat (daliya) : 1 cup
Soaked toor (arhar) dal : 1 cup
Chopped ginger : 1 knot
Chopped green chilli : 1
Bhuna jeera powder : 1 tsp
Broken pine nuts/almonds : handful
Chopped coriander : handful
Red chilli powder: 1 tsp
Meat masala : 1 tsp
Garam masala : 1 tsp
Refined oil : for shallow frying
In a nonstick saucepan, heat water, add your daliya and soaked toor dal. Cook them till they are soft and then strain properly.
Take the strained dal and daliya in a bowl and add chopped ginger, green chilli, some bhuna jeera and crushed pine nuts to it. Add some chopped coriander and season everything with red chilli powder, meat masala, garam masala and salt.
Mix everything together with a spatula and form even sized tikkis with oiled hands.
Heat a non-stick tawa and brush it with some refined oil all over. Sear the tikkis in batches on the tawa for 3-4 minutes per side.
Once grilled, serve them hot on a platter as it is or with some dip.
While adding the nuts in the tikki dough make sure that you do not over grind the nuts into a total powder but let them be a little chunky and coarse. This would add another texture to the dish.
