What is Fettuccine Alfredo?

The traditional fettuccine al burro pasta from Italy was made by just simply tossing the pasta with some butter and parmesan cheese. The cheese and the melted butter emulsify together and form a creamy sauce for the pasta. The modern version fettuccine alfredo has some influence from the USA with heavy cream and other things like garlic and herbs added to it. In some cases even grilled chicken is added on top.

Quick and Easy Fettuccine Alfredo

There isn't a simpler pasta recipe to make, with as few as 4 major ingredients that are necessary to make the recipe. Boil your pasta, heat your cream, butter and cheese, mix them and you're done! What better recipe to make?

How to make Fettuccine Alfredo

  1. Start by boiling water for the pasta and season it generously with some salt. Once the water boils, add the dry pasta into it and stir occasionally.
  2. While the pasta is boiling, prepare your sauce in a stainless steel chef's pan. Add heavy cream and butter to the pan and heat it on medium low. Add butter to the cream and mix them together. Once the butter and cream are combined, add the grated parmesan cheese in the pan as well.
  3. Once everything is combined inside the pan, season it with salt and pepper. Check on the pasta, if it is cooked, toss it into the pan with the sauce, with some pasta water.
  4. Mix the sauce and pasta till everything is evenly combined and the sauce is silky smooth. Serve the pasta in a plate hot, top it with some more grated parmesan and freshly ground black pepper.

Expert Tips

  1. Keep on stirring the pasta to avoid sticking.
  2. Do not overcook the pasta otherwise it will break down in the sauce.
  3. The pasta water is starchy so it helps the sauce to become more silky and creamy.
