What is Dark Chocolate and Orange Mousse ?

The sweet mousse that we’re making over here is a chocolate dessert made by incorporating whipped egg whites to add the light and airy texture. Egg yolks are often mixed with melted chocolate to add a rich mouthfeel to the overall dessert. A mousse can be flavoured with many flavourings like vanilla, mint, lemon, etc. while this specific mousse is flavoured with orange zest to make chocolate and orange flavoured mousse.

  

Quick and Easy Dark Chocolate and Orange Mousse

This mousse is not just a simple dessert in a glass. You can make it in several variations, by chilling them in a mould and demoulding it to form a fancy dessert with some garnishes. The flavour combo of orange and dark chocolate is something which pleases everyone and tastes amazing when you serve it as a simple and convenient dessert.

    How to make Dark Chocolate and Orange Mousse?

    1) Start by separating 3 eggs in two bowls. Whisk the egg whites till stiff peaks form and set it aside.Dark Chocolate and Orange Mousse

    2) In an electric grinder, break some chocolate cookies and grind them into a fine powder. Mix the ground cookies with some butter and set it aside.

    3) Into the egg yolks, add the zest of half an orange. Whisk it together with the yolks and make it light and fluffy.

    4) Add the dark chocolate chunks in a glass boiler over a double boiler. Add some fresh cream to the chocolate and melt it together.

    5) Once the chocolate is melted and cool, add in the egg yolks and incorporate it thoroughly with the chocolate.

    6) Take the whipped egg whites, and fold them into chocolate mixture in 3 batches to make the mixture light and fluffy.

    7) Layer the mousse in a martini glass with the cookie crumble. Let it set in the fridge for at least 4 hours and then garnish it with chocolate shards and orange zest.

    Expert Tips

    1. Make sure there aren't any egg yolks in the whites, or they won't whip properly.
    2. Do not mix the yolks in extremely hot chocolate or they might curdle.
    3. Do not under-refrigerate the mousse or it will not set properly.
