What is Tawa Chicken?

Tawa chicken is a basic chicken curry, which is rather chunkier and has a more zing than the usual. It's generally made on any large flat bottom pan, which can be stainless steel or non-stick. The name tawa chicken comes from the utensil used in cooking, which can be anything with a wide surface area and is cooked over a high flame.

Quick and Easy Tawa Chicken

This is the simplest and the quickest recipe for a chicken curry to make if you're craving one right now. The ingredients are simple and easily available and the whole recipe gets completed in just 30 minutes.

How to make Tawa Chicken

  1. Start by heating a non-stick Circulon sauteuse. Add in the ghee and ginger garlic paste, saute till golden brown. To that add 2 chopped tomatoes and green chillies. Roast the tomatoes on medium flame.
  2. Add dhaniya powder, red chilli powder, jeera powder, garam masala, salt to taste and kasuri methi to the pan. Toast the spices for 1 minute.
  3. Add boneless chicken thigh, cut into small cubes, with thick yogurt. Stir everything. Roast the chicken on medium high flame. Top it off with 2 more chopped tomatoes and green chillies. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 8-10 minutes.
  4. Take off the lid, increase the flame so that all the leftover liquid can reduce and form the gravy. Once thick, add the juice of one lemon, black pepper and also add salted butter.
  5. Garnish the chicken with some ginger juliennes and fresh coriander leaves. Serve it hot in the sauteuse itself with freshly made roomali roti.
